China – June 2026
LONGi Green Energy has announced significant progress in its project to produce high-efficiency solar cells with BC (Back Contact) In Xixian New Area, Shaanxi Province, China, after the publication of the notice of completion of the environmental acceptance procedures for the first phase of the project.
The total investment in the project is approximately 1.248 billion Chinese yuan (equivalent to about US$174 million), and aims to establish an annual production capacity of up to 12.5 GW of high-efficiency BC cells.
Run the first 6.25 GW
The project is being implemented in phases, where the company has already successfully completed and operated 6.25 GW of production capacity Within the first phase, the project aims to reach full capacity of 12.5 GW during subsequent phases.
The production lines and supporting equipment were installed inside a dedicated plant in Jinghe New Area, becoming one of the company’s most important BC cell production centers.
Quick timetable for implementation
- December 2024: Completion of the environmental impact assessment report.
- January 23, 2025: Obtaining the official approval of the project.
- January 2025: Start of construction work.
- May 2025: Completion of construction and commissioning of the first phase with a capacity of 6.25 GW.
- June 19, 2025: Obtaining the Environmental Emissions Drainage Permit.
- September 2025: Adoption and official registration of the Environmental Emergency Response Plan.
Supporting LONGi’s BackContact Strategy
This project marks a new step in Lungi’s strategy to shift towards technology Cells with back-contact (BC)which the company considers to be the next generation of high-efficiency solar cells after traditional TOPCon technologies.
As the project is completed, LONGi will add 12.5 GW of BC cell production capacity per yearThis strengthens its global position in the BakeContact technology race and confirms the continuation of huge investments in this technical path.
In the opinion of observers, the completion and operation 6.25 GW in just a few months It reflects the acceleration of the industrial transformation towards BC technologies, which are beginning to move from niche products to mass production on a global commercial scale.
