China’s GCL, one of China’s leading solar energy companies, recently announced a plan to build the world’s largest solar panel plant with a capacity of 60 GW per year in the eastern Chinese capital of Anhui.
According to the agreement the company signed with the provincial government recently, GCL will invest a total of 18 billion yuan, about 2.5 billion dollars, in the project, which will be built in four phases, each with a production capacity of 15 GW, starting from 2020 to 2023.
Upon completion of the project, the company will be the world’s largest producer of solar panels with a capacity of more than 67 GW.
Eric Lowe, the company’s president, said his company welcomes other companies that provide basic materials for the industry, such as glass and aluminum bars, and invited them to set up factories in the same province.
According to Mr. Lu, the new factory will focus on producing solar panels using 210mm high efficiency cells and is also capable of manufacturing solar panels that use 166mm and 158.75mm cells. He also stated that fully automatic and intelligent production technology will be applied in the factory that benefits from the support and processing of big data.
