The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued a draft law for the requirements of the specifications of the solar energy industry for the year 2020.
This bill provides that new companies and modified production lines meet the following requirements:
The efficiency of polycrystalline silicon cells should be higher than 20%.
Monocrystalline silicon cells are more than 23% efficient.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) appears to be working to protect the solar market from a potentially insane drop in prices as a result of the insane rise in expansions of existing production lines and the creation of such massive capacity expansions announced recently by solar energy companies such as Aiko, Resin, and Lungi Solar are largely lifted by raising standards for solar panel quality, which means that many of these companies will abandon their plans if the law is passed.
It is worth mentioning that the current cell efficiency technology is about 0.5% lower than the target sought by the Chinese government, which means that it is pressuring the solar industry to move towards more efficient technologies such as Heterogenction or TOPCon cells, which reach efficiency levels above 23%.
